CNN to buy Social technology blog Mashable

According to media reports, news network CNN is in final stages of sealing the deal to buy social media news site Mashable for more than $200 million. CNN just like other mainstream news outlets has been trying very hard to evolve its business to compete more effectively in the age of social media.

Mashable was started by Scottish teenager Pete Cashmore in 2005 and has a monthly traffic of more than 50 million monthly page views. According to sources, the deal could be closed within a week.

Mashable is the one stop source for news related to the fast-growing social media sector covering companies ranging from start-ups to larger players like Facebook and Twitter.

The statement given by CNN spokeswoman Christa Robinson on the media reports of CNN buying Mashable is: 'We do not engage in speculation about our business and we aren’t commenting on these reports.'
There is no word from Mashable spokesperson yet on the reported deal.

Internet Censored in India: Indian ISPs Ordered To Block Over 100 Sites

Calcutta High Court ordered nearly 400 Internet service providers in India to block over 100 music sites.

The action was taken on the petition filed by The Indian Music Industry (IMI) trade group made up of 142 music companies.

Last month, Delhi High Court ordered 21 sites including Google and Facebook to block content that might be considered as offensive by certain religious groups. Recent report on the case indicates that executives of Facebook and Google could even face jail time for failing to censor offensive content. A few days back, Facebook banned some pages that were deemed offensive to some in India.
